FAQ

Questions, answered honestly.

Refinishing

Can you match an existing stain color?

Yes. Bobby hand-mixes stains and finishes to match a color already in your home, or helps you choose something new if you'd rather change the piece's look entirely.

Do you restore antiques and family heirlooms?

Yes — antiques and heirloom pieces are a core part of the work. Every heirloom project can include a documented provenance record alongside the restoration, so the piece's history and materials travel with it.

What's the difference between refinishing and restoration?

Refinishing usually means stripping and reapplying a new stain or topcoat to an otherwise sound piece. Restoration goes further — structural repair, veneer or joinery work, and returning a damaged piece to solid condition before finishing. Most projects blend both, and your estimate will spell out which applies to your piece.

Can you refinish outdoor or water-damaged furniture?

Often, yes. Water damage and sun-faded outdoor furniture can usually be stripped, repaired, and refinished, though the right approach depends on the wood species and how far the damage has progressed. Send photos and Bobby will tell you honestly whether restoration makes sense for that specific piece.

Pricing

How much does furniture refinishing cost in Sarasota?

It depends on the piece — size, wood species, current condition, and the finish you want all factor in. Share photos and your vision and Bobby will prepare a detailed estimate that includes both the cost of the work and the as-is and restored value of the piece, so you can see what the investment returns.

Do you offer a free estimate?

Yes. Send photos of your piece and a description of what you're hoping for, and Bobby will personally review it and reply with an estimate — no cost or obligation to start that conversation.

Process

How long does a furniture refinishing project take?

Most refinishing projects take a few weeks from drop-off to delivery, depending on the extent of repair work and current workshop volume. Your estimate will include a specific timeline for your piece.

Do you pick up and deliver in the Sarasota area?

Pickup and delivery can be arranged for local Sarasota-area projects — ask when you get your estimate and Bobby will confirm what's possible for your piece and location.

What do I need to send to get started?

A few clear photos of the piece from different angles, plus a description of what you'd like — matching an existing color, changing the finish entirely, or repairing specific damage. That's enough for Bobby to prepare an initial estimate.

Heritage & Provenance

Do you offer a certificate of authenticity or provenance record?

We build a documented provenance record for pieces that go through the full process — ownership history, maker's marks, materials, and restoration details, tied to the piece with a QR code. It reflects a documented opinion of the piece's value and history, not a certified appraisal; if you need a certified appraisal for insurance or legal purposes, we can point you toward a credentialed independent appraiser.

What is a documented provenance record, and why does it matter?

It's a written record of a piece's history and condition — where it came from, who owned it, what was done to restore it, and a market estimate of its value — created at the time of restoration so that information isn't lost for the next owner. It's meant to travel with the piece, not replace a professional appraisal.
